The excitement of finding out you’re pregnant can soon be tainted by the varying degrees of pregnancy symptoms. Chinese Medicine is a safe and effective modality to ease uncomfortable pregnancy syndromes whilst also being an opportunity to relax in the sympathetic nervous system and allow the body and mind to unwind. When Mother is relaxed, baby is relaxed.
Chinese Medicine can help with the following:
Miscarriage Prevention
Morning Sickness
Anxiety
Edema
Fetus not Growing
Migraines/Headaches
Heart Burn
Constipation
Sciatica/Back Pain
Pelvic Girdle Pain
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
High Blood Pressure
Thyroid Issues
Gestational Diabetes
INDUCTION, BREECH, POSTERIOR
Chinese Medicine can also be effective for improving cervical maturity and is therefore often used as a natural induction method in order to avoid being induced in hospital. Specific acupuncture points are stimulated and the use of warming Moxa on the lower back is used to soften and ripen the cervix in order to stimulate labour. Treatments can begin from 38 weeks.
Moxibustion can help babies in either a breech, posterior or transverse presentation.
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1998 found that up to 75% of women with breech presentations before childbirth had fetuses that rotated to the normal position after receiving moxibustion at an acupuncture point (acupoint BL 67.
Moxa is made from the herb mugwort and is often used in a stick form (similar to a cigar shape). One end of the Moxa stick is lit and held close enough to the skin that the patient feels a beautiful warm sensation. The Moxa enhances blood flow to this particular acupuncture point and increases the movement of the fetus, helping babies head to enter into the pelvis into optimal position.
